SONY GIRL

Sony Online Entertainment wants to helping women?s gaming dreams come true with their G.I.R.L. Program.

A tweet from SOE G.I.R.L. went out today, saying that they will start accepting submissions for the 2013 scholarship program soon.

The Gamers In Real Life program started in 2008 and offers a $10,000 scholarship toward a college tuition, as well as a 10-week paid internship.

According to Polygon, past scholarship winners include women like Julia Brasil, who has become an environmental artist at Secret Identity Studios, the developer working on the Marvel Heroes massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. Sylvia Liu, who won in 2010, isn?t working in the games industry, but has gone on to work as a background artist for Transformers Prime, which airs on Hasbro?s station, The Hub.

To apply for the G.I.R.L. scholarship, one has to be 18 years or older, a legal resident of the United States, enrolled at an accredited school in an undergraduate program related to video games (or anything related to games and design), and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants should note that they must not be graduating before the end of the Spring 2013 term in order to be eligible.
